PoE Power Budget Calculator

What this tool does

Check whether a PoE switch can power your cameras through their network cables. Use it when choosing a switch or adding devices, especially cameras with night lighting, heaters or motors.

How to use it

  1. List the maximum watts needed by each camera or other powered device, separated by commas or new lines.
  2. Allow for power lost along the cables and leave a separate reserve for spare capacity.
  3. Enter the switch’s total PoE power budget and its per-port power limit from the specifications.

Reading your result

The tool checks two things: whether the switch has enough power overall, and whether one port can supply the most demanding device. Both need to fit.

Example: four 12 W cameras need a total budget of about 66.24 W with a 15% loss allowance and 20% reserve.

Keep in mind

Include maximum demand with night lighting or heaters running. If your figures already include losses at the switch, set the loss allowance to zero.

Enough watts alone does not prove compatibility. Check that each camera’s required PoE type is supported and whether the switch shares power limits between ports.

Use Download results or Print to keep your inputs and estimate. The tool uses the values you enter; it does not read your equipment’s settings.
