NVR Throughput Checker

What this tool does

Check whether a network video recorder (NVR) can receive all your camera feeds at once. Use it before adding cameras: having enough recording channels does not mean the recorder can handle enough video data.

How to use it

  1. List each incoming video feed’s bitrate in Mbps, separated by commas or new lines. Include extra feeds if your recorder receives them.
  2. Add a headroom percentage to leave room above the combined bitrate.
  3. Enter the recorder’s incoming bandwidth limit from its specifications, then calculate.

Reading your result

The tool adds the feeds together and checks the total, including headroom, against your recorder’s limit. “Within entered limit” means this bandwidth check passes.

Example: four 8 Mbps feeds total 32 Mbps. Adding 25% headroom makes the target 40 Mbps.

Keep in mind

Use configured maximum bitrates for a cautious check, since camera data rates can rise in busy scenes. Look for incoming bandwidth, not the recorder’s outgoing or playback limit.

This does not check camera compatibility, storage, channel count or how many videos the recorder can display at once.

Use Download results or Print to keep your inputs and estimate. The tool uses the values you enter; it does not read your equipment’s settings.
