Cellular Camera Data Calculator

What this tool does

Estimate how much mobile data a SIM-connected camera will use over a billing period. Use it to choose a data allowance or see how longer clips and more live viewing affect your plan.

How to use it

  1. Enter the number and length of clips uploaded each day. Count clips sent over the mobile connection, including any extra seconds saved around the event.
  2. Add daily live viewing time and the video bitrates in Mbps: how much data each video feed sends per second.
  3. Set the billing period, background data and plan allowance. Background data covers other camera activity; the overhead percentage adds an allowance for extra traffic.

Reading your result

The total combines uploaded clips, live viewing and your extra allowances. The remaining-data result shows whether that total fits within your plan.

Example: one camera sending thirty 20-second clips and five minutes of live video daily at 1 Mbps uses about 3.82 GB over 30 days, with 100 MB background data and 10% overhead.

Keep in mind

Recording onto a camera’s memory card is different from sending video over mobile data. Enter background usage for the whole billing period you selected.

Updates, repeated uploads and weak reception can change usage. Compare your estimate with an actual bill before relying on it.
